Description

NotesDavid Law was a watercolor painter and etcher. He was the father of the watercolor landscape painters Annie and Beatrice Law. Law, who specialized in landscape painting, studied at the Trustees Academy in Edinburgh from 1845 to 1850. He was an active exhibitor, showing at the Royal Academy, Royal Institute of Painters, Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers, Society of British Artists (SBA), Fine Art Society, Dowdeswells Galleries, Agnew and Sons Gallery and Dudley Gallery. He also exhibited at the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Water Colours, Royal Hibernian Academy, Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, Royal Society of Artists in Birmingham, Manchester City Gallery and Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. He entered membership of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1881. In 1884 he was elected a member of the Society of British Artists and in 1887 he became the society's Treasurer.
