NotesKim Hyo-je graduated from Seoul National University's Department of Sculpture and majored in sculpture. Since entering the printmaking world, she has attracted attention for her woodblock prints that fill images of nature with lyricism. She said that among her prints, she chose woodblock prints that express her unique bluntness and lines in order to make her work known to more people and to meet more people. Kim Hyo-je's prints show formative characteristics by transforming natural images such as mountains, islands, and roads into simple geometric forms. She uses a unique printing technique using oil paints to indicate the distance between the surface and the back surface, unlike general perspective, and emphasizes subtle and deep color changes. She not only used images of nature, but also used materials with quite religious and metaphysical content. Even though she is a woodblock print, her neutral colors, as if she had drawn it herself with light pastel, show her extraordinary sensitivity.
