NotesArmand, known as Auguste Balouzet, was born Arnaud Larose Balouzet in Saint-Genis-Laval on February 18, 1858, son of Jean Balouzet, plasterer, and Pierrette Mazencieux. He painted from a very young age although he was destined to work in the family painting and plastering business and therefore did not receive an academic artistic education. However, his neighbor, Leberecht Lortet , is named , a student of Calame who gave him ten years of lessons in Oullins. The latter notably took him to paint on the subject in the Alps and in the canton of Valais, it is estimated that it was he who gave him a taste for landscape. Balouzet was strongly influenced by Leberecht Lortet since he took lessons with him only. He would also have been influenced by the work of Carrand , Vernay and Ravier. A small group of Lyon painters from the second half of the 19th century close to the Barbizon School and considered direct precursors of the Impressionists in the case of Carrand and Ravier. Vernay, for his part, entered the currents of expressionism and fauvism. Balouzet died of typhoid fever in Charbonnières-les-Bains on May 12, 1905 at the age of 47, leaving behind his widow and four children. He is considered to have left behind a considerable painted work which is partially located today. Balouzet's works are in the Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon.
