NotesThe son of a father director of a steelworks, Roger Forissier grew up in Lyon and spent his youth in the district of La Guillotière, on the left bank of the Rhône. His sister Christiane was born in 1927. His parents envisioned a brilliant career for him in Saint-Cyr, but Roger Forissier once a week followed the drawing lessons of the painter Pierre Combet-Descombes 1885(1885–1966). Then he attended the Lycée Ampère, ranked first in the drawing course where he painted La Classe de dessin, gouache with which he obtained a national prize in 1937 and the encouragement of his teacher Mr Bousquet1.

In 1942, he entered the École nationale des beaux-Arts in Lyon in the workshop of Antoine Chartres 1905(1905-1968), and divided his time between the sculpting, harvesting, harvesting and its courses, trying above all to escape the compulsory labour service. He also trained his fellow students in the creation of a small theatre company and musical activities of which Mick Micheyl was a member. Faced with these facts, two of his teachers, the painter Jacques Laplace 1890(1890–1955), having noticed the quality of his work, and the painter René Chancrin 1911(1911–1981) allowed him to complete his school cycle in two years instead of the four years planned.

In 1947, he moved to Paris where he passed the entrance exam at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. Maurice Boitel, who goes to Algeria, gives him his studio at 24 rue Bonaparte. Roger Forissier then moved to the Villa des Lyonnais, at Noo. 18 rue Ledion in the XIVth earrondissement3. He studied fresco with Pierre-Henri Ducos de La Haille 1889(1889–1972), made a stint through the studio of Nicolas Untersteller 1900(1900–1967) and joined the studio of Jean Dupas 1882(1882–1964 René Béhéret, a print merchant who sells some small canvases of the students of the neighbouring school, allows Forissier to sell his first painting. In 1952-1953, he became a boarder of the Casa de Velazquez in Madrid.

In 1964, he met Jean Cocteau. His daughter Sandrine was born the same year. An accident in a car caused him to gradually lose his hearing skills. He settled in a workshop in Recloses in the forest of Fontainebleau. He painted on Saint-Mammès, on the banks of the Seine and the Loing, at Chailly, at Barbizon and in Bourron-Marlotte.

In 1981 the Forissier moved to New York City. He toured the major cities of the United States and visited the province of Quebec.

Forissier is a member of the Rabelais Academy and president of the association "École de Moret" which organizes the annual Salon de Fontainebleau. He was appointed Knight of the Arts and Letters.

Roger Forissier painted several thousand paintings including a very large proportion of landscapes, still lifes and portraits. He died in 2003 in his house in Recloses where a commemorative plaque was affixed in homage in by the Municipality7.
