NotesTakashi Asahina was born in Hiroshima City in 1932. He survived the atomic bombing in 1945. In 1951 he moved to Tokyo and entered Chuo University, but dropped out to exhibit and travel to the United States. In 1959 he enrolled in the Art Student's League studying under Harry Steinberg graduating in 1961. In 1962, he began producing screen prints at the Pratt Institute printmaking studio. In 1968, he held solo exhibitions at the Mook Gallery in France and elsewhere in France. His work was purchased for the permanent collection of the Seattle Art Museum. Asahina exhibited at the Boston Print Exhibition, the American Print Society Exhibition, and elsewhere in the US. In 1971, he traveled to France and in 1972 returned to Japan. He has held numerous solo exhibitions at galleries across Japan, primarily at Ueno Matsuzakaya in Tokyo and elsewhere. He has lived in Mutsuzawa-cho, near Mobara City, since 1989, setting up an atelier there. In addition to producing Western style paintings he also produces limited edition prints in various media.
