NotesLéon Bollag and his brother, Gustave [1873-1953], opened a gallery in Zurich in 1913 along with Betty Moos, Leon's wife, and her brother, Max Moos. Leon's son, Max Bollag followed the family tradition with a Gallery Modern Art Center on Zurich's Rämistrasse and shortly afterwards in the Zunfthaus zur Meisen. The family gallery moved to Lausanne in 1940 exhibiting paintings by major artists such as Cuno Amiet, Johann Heinrich Füsseli, Alberto Giacometti, and early works by Pablo Picasso, among others. Museums throughout the world have artworks sold thru the Bollag Gallery, including the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, but Paintings by Leon Bollag are extremely rare. A sale of artworks from Bollag's was organized by Christie's in 2018 and included a work by Leon.
