NotesAllen Dean Cochran studied under two distinguished members of the National Academy: Kenyon Cox, a fellow Ohio-native; followed by Birge Harrison, a famous painter and resident of his adopted home in Woodstock, New York. Cochran joined Harrison’s Woodstock Artists Association, and his emergent style was reflective of the Tonalist and Arts and Crafts movements embraced by Harrison.
The artist exhibited at the National Academy with the Woodstock Artist Association, and at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in 1914 and 1919; Art Institute of Chicago; Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art in 1912, 1917 and 1918. Cochran was also a member of the Salmagundi Club. His work is housed in the permanent collection of the Woodstock Artists Association and many other important private collections.
